TEACHER TRAINING
New Session Starts April 9th
Many of the top yoga instructors in DFW teaching in studios and at gyms started their yogic journey with the American Power Yoga Teacher Training Program however it is not really a teacher training program. It is a program designed to excel your understanding of life and yoga so much that you become comfortable sharing yoga with anyone and everyone. Explore your potential with Kurt Johnsen, founder of American Power Yoga as well as Senior Instructor Jayme Bushmiaer. Learn over 100 poses with hundreds of modifications, a dozen unique warm-ups, and powerful meditations, and be able to share them all with confidence and safety.
At the end of the session students have the option to register with Yoga Alliance under their 200-hour certification however we are not a vocational institution nor college and I personally do not recommend this training for those who are motivated by money. It is true that yoga teachers can make up to $75 an hour however there are far better paths to wealth. This training is for anyone who is motivated to improve their own life and those of others. I can tell you the journey is often challenging however it is one of the most rewarding choices I have ever made.
It is our mission that through a deeper understanding of this practice, the student will experience heightened awareness and more compassion for others. Whether he or she wants to teach yoga or simply deepen their practice, they will have the ability to share the essential tools to happiness and assist others, one life at time. ~Kurt Johnsen

The Program
The American Power Yoga (APY) Instructor Course is over 200 hours designed to train individuals to share the diverse tools, philosophies, and knowledge that APY offers through its yoga practice. This course meets the requirements for the student to become a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through Yoga Alliance. The program is extremely flexible and built for those with full-time jobs.
Unlike many yoga studios, APY intentionally strives to pull from not only the traditional yoga practices of India, but from as many sources, countries, continents, and cultures as possible. It is our belief that there are many paths to the same place, and the more knowledge our instructors are equipped with, the better they can connect, understand, and assist the world's diverse population. The course will cover over one hundred poses, movements, and modifications taken from all over the world. In addition, the foundations of APY are covered by exploring several traditional yoga practices, the Yin and Yang theory, Five Element Breathing, the Chakra system, Needle in the Cotton (Tibetan Tai Chi), and Chi Gung, as well as many forms of meditation, breath-work, and energy.
Basic topics such as anatomy, nutrition, and body composition analysis are also covered. Lastly, class preparation and designing your own presentations are taught in order to prepare the student to teach a class.
In American Power Yoga we use different physical challenges taken from many practices of yoga, kung fu, and qi gung, as well as the very latest in Western rehabilitation. This allows us to replicate the mental, emotional, and physical challenges we all face each day. We condition the body while strengthening the mind.
I strongly believe by making our mind strong and flexible enough to successfully deal with the ever changing daily challenges, it will lead us to a happier and more fulfilling life. I also try to infuse elements of all the branches of classical yoga within the practice by reminding the practitioners of the importance of taking care of themselves daily (devotion), educating them on the ancient laws of energy and the latest studies of western medicine (knowledge), urging them to use their strength and compassion to assist others (service), and encouraging them to see each class as a meditation. Because we hold on to the traditional values of this practice, in many ways I consider us new "traditionalists."

Testimonials
"The APY teacher training program got me in the best shape mentally and physically of my life."
"I have taken two other yoga certifications and have learned more in this training than the other two combined!"
APY's yoga teacher training was one of the best experiences ever. Not only did I grow and condition my body physically, but mentally as well. I increased my self awareness allowing me to have more compassion for others. The physical challenges of yoga are the same as the realities of life. And learning to breathe through these situations is the most important."
"I have paid for a lot of self-development courses, been through some "transformational" work, have read and studied ancient philosophy and "New-Thought" ideas, but the APY Teacher Training encompasses things that directly affect my day-to-day life and living experience. Through this training I have become physically and mentally stronger, healthier, fit and a lot more conscious of what I put into my body and my mind. I am surrounded by more authentic, caring people because I have learned to be more authentic and caring myself."
"Whoever named this training 'Teacher Training' way undersold what the program is all about. This training is Life Training."
